Kathy Klotz-Guest CEO of Keeping it Human, is a marketing strategist and storyteller who has helped companies such as SGI, Gartner, Excite and Autodesk, create better products and turn marketing messages into powerful human stories. She is a Founding Research Fellow and board member for the Society for New Communications Research (SNCR) and recently completed a study of over 100 companies on the use of video storytelling.

With a background in humor and improvisation, Kathy also helps teams innovate differently by inverting assumptions about what’s possible, using play as creative fuel, and never losing sight of the fact that marketing is always about meeting customers’ human needs. Linda Popky interviews Karen Freberg at the recent Integrate 2011 Conference for IMC professionals at West Virginia University about how social media fits with crisis PR plan.

A doctoral candidate studying public relations at the University of Tennessee, Karen is currently a graduate teaching associate at the University of Tennessee and an adjunct faculty member for West Virginia University. Karen’s research interests are in public relations, crisis communications, and social media. She’s presented in several international conferences with her research in China, Brazil, Greece, and the Netherlands. Karen has also worked on several grant projects with the National Center for Food Protection and Defense (NCFPD) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Division involving emerging social media and mobile technologies in crisis communications.
